Today’s New Moon Begins a New Year

December 30, 2024 – today’s new moon, the first following the winter solstice of December 21st - marks the beginning of the Abenaki lunar calendar: it is considered as marking the New Year.. On this day, it is a shared custom to ask for forgiveness of our family, friends, and community as we enter a new cycle together. And so, I say to you all “Liwlaldamana, anhaldamawi kassi palilawlan” - Please, forgive me for the many wrongs I did you. This is a new beginning for us to travel together.
