"Continuing the Process of Listening to Unheard Voices"

"Continuing the process of listening to unheard voices" is an often-used phrase in some socio-political circles. What's critically lacking in some of these framings is transparency regarding the narrow assumptions implicit in the statement:

  • Who has a voice? Only certain humans (see previous post on this Page today)

  • What is the process that continues? Colonization and its self-assertive dialogue of validity

  • Where does this happen? Within prescribed state forums (spheres of influence)

  • How is one heard? By speaking in expected, appealing, stereotypical terms

  • Why make these assertions? To exert control and exercise influence

If we were truly seeking balance and better relationships, with each other, our mother, and all of our relations, our hands would be extended and our hearts would be open - we would be seeking commonality and connection, rather than grandstanding.

It doesn't need to be this way. The VT state-recognized Abenaki bands request dialogue in council, to make a future for next generations (all of them).

Ibitta wlidaha - only be goodhearted.
